U.S. and Nigerian forces killed a senior commander of the Islamic State (IS) during an operation conducted yesterday, Friday. U.S. President Donald Trump shared this information in a social media post.
In a post shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday night local time, Trump wrote: “Tonight, at my direction, brave U.S. forces and the Nigerian Armed Forces executed a highly precise, well-planned, and complex operation. Its objective was to eliminate the world’s most active terrorist from the battlefield.”
In his post, Trump further stated that the target (of the operation) was “Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, ISIL’s global second-in-command.”
Trump wrote: “He will no longer be able to terrorize the people of Africa or assist in planning attacks targeting Americans.”
This is not the first time Trump has ordered lethal strikes against members of the Islamic State in Nigeria. He has also raised allegations regarding the persecution of Christians in the West African nation.
Last December, Trump stated that he had ordered a “powerful and lethal strike” against IS in northwestern Nigeria, noting that they had killed innocent Christians.
