Iran has executed a man named Irfan Shakurzadeh on charges of espionage on behalf of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad.

The country’s judiciary-affiliated news agency, Mizan News, and the semi-official news agency, Mehr News, confirmed this information today, Monday.

According to reports, the condemned individual, Irfan Shakurzadeh, was engaged in satellite-related research and activities at an Iranian scientific organization.

He was accused of leaking critical and classified scientific information to foreign intelligence agencies.

Citing human rights organizations, various media outlets reported that 29-year-old Irfan Shakurzadeh was a graduate of aerospace engineering. He was arrested last year.

However, human rights groups claim that his confession was extracted under duress.

In recent times, Iran has executed several individuals on charges of involvement with foreign intelligence agencies. Tehran asserts that it is pursuing a “zero-tolerance” policy against individuals who undermine national security and work on behalf of hostile nations.
