Seven people, including two police officers, were killed in a head-on collision between a police vehicle and a car travelling on the wrong side of the road in Britain. The tragic accident occurred early Saturday morning on the A66 dual carriageway. The BBC reported the incident online.

Police and rescue agencies stated that a Volkswagen Passat, carrying five teenage occupants, was speeding along the wrong side of the road. It collided head-on with a Cleveland Police armed patrol vehicle that was travelling correctly in the opposite direction. All seven individuals across both vehicles died at the scene. The deceased officers were identified as 37-year-old Constable Matthew Blades and 38-year-old Constable Tom Cliff.

Although multiple emergency service teams, including ambulances, arrived at the scene immediately, no one could be rescued alive. British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and local Mayor Ben Houchen expressed deep condolences for the officers killed in the line of duty. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) stated that police had pursued the car shortly before the crash; a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether the pursuit had ended immediately prior to the collision.
