Chinese President Xi Jinping is visiting the United States this week, expressing hope that “strategic stability” between the world’s two largest economies will be further strengthened. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump. Beijing confirmed Xi Jinping’s visit on Monday.
Washington had previously announced that the two leaders would meet to seek common ground on various broad strategic issues, including trade disputes, artificial intelligence (AI), and Trump’s Middle East policy.
An official statement indicated that Xi Jinping would pay a state visit to the United States from Wednesday (September 23) through Friday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that the two leaders would engage in “in-depth exchanges on important issues concerning China-US relations and global peace and development.”
He added that Beijing would work with the US “to enrich the substance of the constructive strategic stability relationship between China and the US and to properly manage differences.”
A US official confirmed that President Trump would personally welcome Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday, with the meeting between the two leaders taking place the following day.
