The United States has launched attacks on Iran for the eleventh consecutive night. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the objective of these strikes was to degrade Iran’s capability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
During the attacks, a series of massive explosions rocked various parts of the capital, Tehran, prompting the activation of air defense systems. Reports also emerged of strikes on multiple military installations in the country’s southern and northwestern regions.
In a statement, CENTCOM announced that US forces targeted Iranian military operations centers, naval capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, and military logistics infrastructure.
Al Jazeera correspondent Touhid Asadi reported from Tehran that loud explosions were heard across various areas of the capital, coinciding with the activation of air defense systems at multiple locations.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported explosions in various parts of the southern city of Bushehr. Additionally, the Fars news agency reported multiple explosions near the southern city of Sirik.
Fars reported that US missile strikes hit areas near the cities of Behbahan and Omidieh in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province; this information was confirmed by the province’s deputy governor.
Fars also reported a US strike on a military facility on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Tabriz. Citing local crisis management officials, the agency stated that the attack occurred at 2:40 AM local time, targeting a military zone outside the city, though no strikes took place within the city itself.
While recent rounds of US strikes primarily targeted southern Iran and the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, the attacks on Tabriz and Tehran signal a shift in this pattern.
Earlier, on Tuesday (July 21), the Kuwaiti military announced that it had shot down a drone launched by Iran. Since US attacks resumed this month, Iran has launched multiple attacks on Gulf nations, including Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar.
