In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump outlined his stance on Iran, stating, “My question is—do I destroy the whole country? And if I do, when do I do it? They need to behave properly.”
Explaining the options before him regarding Iran, the US President noted that one path is the total destruction of the country, while another is allowing its economy to “rot.” There is also the possibility of reaching an agreement through negotiations. However, he hinted that “something big” is likely to happen very soon.
Meanwhile, Trump did not rule out the possibility of diplomatic initiatives during the United Nations General Assembly’s high-level week, which begins on Monday. When asked about a potential meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, he said he was “probably open” to such a meeting.
The US President also spoke about the broader conflict in the Middle East. He claimed that Washington maintains regular contact with the Houthi group in Yemen, despite their recent ballistic missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. According to Trump, the Houthis have agreed not to fight against US forces.
