The United States’ expenditure on the ongoing conflict with Iran has already reached $45.1 billion. The Pentagon, the country’s defense department, disclosed this information to Congress. These updated figures regarding war costs were presented in a classified document sent to US lawmakers on Friday; the report was published by CNN online.
Citing two sources familiar with the matter, the report states that direct military spending on the conflict totaled $43.6 billion as of September 3. However, an official noted that this does not represent the comprehensive cost of the war. It excludes potential expenses for repairing damaged US military bases or other installations. Furthermore, detailed information regarding indirect military costs has not yet been presented to lawmakers. All told, US spending on this conflict could rise significantly further.
These new figures provided by the Pentagon surpass earlier projections made by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Previously, the CBO had estimated that war-related spending could reach $38 billion by August 1. There are concerns that this protracted conflict could further fuel inflation in the US market through the first quarter of 2027, thereby intensifying public anxiety regarding the American economy.
