US Senator Marco Rubio has stated that the United States does not require any assistance from China regarding the issue of Iran. Additionally, he noted that President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have reached an agreement regarding keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

Speaking to NBC News, Rubio said, “We are not asking for China’s help. We do not need their assistance.” He added that both sides shared their concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the critical Strait of Hormuz.

The US Senator asserted that China does not agree with the militarization of the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, China does not consent to Iran imposing tolls on this waterway—and on these matters, our position is identical.

Rubio warned that Tehran is attempting to exploit divisions within US politics in an effort to influence negotiations with Washington.

He stated, “What President Trump is making clear is that if the Iranians believe they can use our domestic politics to pressure us into a bad deal, that will not be allowed to happen.” President Trump is currently in the United States on a two-day visit.
