Nine people have been killed in Russian missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported this information on Saturday.

The agency stated on Telegram that the attacks caused widespread destruction and fires across five districts of the capital. At least 23 people were injured in the strikes, according to news agency AFP.

Ukrainian authorities reported that ballistic missiles were used in the attack. Rescue workers are currently conducting operations in the affected areas.

This attack comes as a United Nations report indicates that June of this year was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022, driven by Moscow’s intensified long-range strikes on cities and populated areas across Ukraine.

Shortly after the attacks began, Mayor Klitschko posted a message on Telegram stating, “Explosions are being heard in the city. Russia is launching ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv. Everyone, please stay in safe shelters.”
