Iran has engaged in fierce clashes with armed smugglers in the region bordering Pakistan. Subsequently, Iranian security forces seized a large shipment of weapons. Al Jazeera reported this news, citing the country’s semi-official news agency, Fars News.
The deputy commander of the border guard forces in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province told Fars News that, following a shootout with the smugglers, the following items were recovered from the scene: four RPG-7 launchers, six anti-tank RPG projectiles, six RPG propellant charges, 2,382 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and 796 rounds of live M-4 rifle ammunition.
Iranian authorities claim that this vast quantity of weapons and ammunition was being smuggled into Iran with the aim of carrying out major acts of sabotage and destabilizing the country’s internal security.
