France has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council following the seizure of the medieval Beaufort Castle in Lebanon by Israeli forces. According to the news agency AFP, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot disclosed this information.

In an interview with the French television channel BFM TV, he stated, “I have requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. For just as we recognize Israel’s right to self-defense, every other country in the world possesses that same right. However, there can be no justification for Israel to continue its military operations in Lebanon or to extend its occupation deeper into Lebanese territory.”

Jean-Noël Barrot further indicated that France views Israel’s recent actions as a matter of concern regarding both international law and Lebanon’s sovereignty. In his view, Israel’s escalating military presence within Lebanese territory could further exacerbate regional tensions.
