Yair Golan, the former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israeli military, has described the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a grave mistake. In his view, by waging war against Iran, Israel has actually ended up in a worse position than before.
In an interview, Golan stated that killing Khamenei did not advance Israel’s interests; instead, it strengthened conservative forces within Iran. He noted that a long-serving, elderly leader can actually be advantageous under certain circumstances. Golan also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alleging that he squandered a historic opportunity.
