Anna Sorokin (Delvey)
Anna Delvey (born Anna Sorokin) is a German-born socialite who was convicted of grand larceny and theft of services in 2019. She gained notoriety in early 2018 when the New York Magazine published the story of her elaborate scam, which involved pretending to be a German heiress with a large trust fund.
Delvey was born in 1991 in Russia & immigrated to Germany with her family at age 7. She moved to New York City in 2013 & quickly became a fixture of the city’s social scene. Using her charm & charisma, she convinced many people to invest in her fake business ventures & to pay for her extravagant lifestyle under the assumption that she was a wealthy heiress.
In November – 2018, Delvey was arrested & charged with grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, and theft of services. In April 2019, she was convicted on all charges and sentenced to four to twelve years in prison. After her release, she plans to write a book about her experiences… Her story is also being adapted into a Netflix series.
