Steve Witkoff, a special envoy for US President Donald Trump, is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday. The discussions will focus on proposals to end the conflict in Ukraine. A day earlier, Witkoff met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo. Following that meeting, Zelenskyy noted that the sharing of US intelligence regarding Russian missile attacks is now proving effective. This report comes from the BBC.
Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, also participated in the Oslo meeting via video conference. US officials described the discussions as highly productive. Previously, Kyiv had accused the United States of withholding critical intelligence; however, Zelenskyy has now expressed gratitude for the advance warnings provided by the US. He also expressed hope for a swift and positive resolution regarding the restrictions placed on the operation of Starlink satellites.
Meanwhile, in Washington, Donald Trump has once again urged Ukraine to reach an agreement, stating that it is time for the war to end. On the other hand, while Zelenskyy has indicated a readiness for negotiations, he pointed out that Russia’s ongoing attacks continue to claim many lives. On Tuesday, at least 10 people were killed in Russian drone strikes across various locations in Ukraine. European leaders, including Germany’s Friedrich Merz, have emphasized the need for Europe to play an active role in any discussions aimed at resolving the conflict.
