The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has selected Boeing to develop a sixth-generation fighter jet for the US Navy. US officials announced on Tuesday that the contract is valued at $20 billion.
A Pentagon statement indicated that the contract involves the development of the F/A-XX aircraft, or “strike fighter.” These jets are part of the “Next Generation Air Dominance” program. The new fighters are set to replace the aging “Super Hornet” jets starting in the 2030s.
This marks the second time Boeing has been selected by the Pentagon to develop a sixth-generation weapon system during Trump’s second administration. Previously, in March 2025, Trump had announced that the US Air Force had chosen Boeing to develop a new stealth fighter jet.
