The foreign ministers of Iran and China have held a meeting amidst the pressure of US sanctions.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Details of the meeting were shared via the Iranian Foreign Minister’s Telegram channel; however, no specifics regarding the topics discussed were disclosed.
Meanwhile, the United States has moved to further increase economic pressure on Iran. Washington has unveiled a new plan to “strangle” Iran’s economy. As part of this strategy, threats of sanctions have also been escalated against other nations maintaining economic ties with Iran.
Washington has called upon governments around the world to join this US economic campaign.
China, however, has opposed this pressure. Beijing has stated that it will take necessary measures to safeguard its own interests following the new US moves.
Regarding the US economic pressure on Iran, China’s stance is that sanctions will not resolve the ongoing conflict. Beijing has been calling for a ceasefire in the conflict, which has been ongoing for six months.
According to China, US sanctions could complicate the situation further rather than resolving the conflict.
