The United States has announced over $3.6 million in humanitarian aid for people affected by devastating floods in Nepal. Under this assistance package, up to 10,000 flood-affected families will receive emergency food aid for a period of three months. The US Embassy in Kathmandu stated that it is working with the Government of Nepal and various humanitarian organizations to deliver aid to the flood-hit areas. Prior to this, the embassy had already begun delivering relief supplies requested by the Nepalese government to the affected regions.
News agency PTI reported this development. In a post on X, the embassy stated, “There is no higher priority for us than the safety of American citizens. Our embassies in Nepal and China are working closely to assist US citizens and support disaster response efforts.” The post further added, “The United States stands with the people of Nepal. We are providing over $3.6 million in life-saving humanitarian assistance, which includes emergency food aid for up to 10,000 flood-affected families for three months.”
The embassy noted that US Chargé d’Affaires Scott Arbaugh dispatched the first shipment of emergency relief supplies from the US to Nepal on August 28. The embassy had commenced the delivery of relief materials requested by the Nepalese government to the affected communities a day earlier.
