Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the economic size of Muslim nations is disproportionately small compared to their combined population and geostrategic significance. Consequently, he has called for greater cooperation in this area. Pezeshkian made these remarks while addressing the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference held in Tehran.
Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of unity among Muslim nations, despite any existing differences.
He noted that the 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)—spanning from Southeast Asia to Africa—are situated at the crossroads of vital maritime and land routes and possess abundant energy resources, a youthful population, and a vast market.
He further pointed out that only 19 percent of the member states’ exports remain within the bloc, with the remainder going to countries outside the OIC. He urged for an increase in trade among Muslim nations.
