US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that the aircraft carrier USS George Washington has now been deployed to the Middle East. Al Jazeera reported the news.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said that the George Washington Carrier Strike Group arrived in the CENTCOM area of responsibility yesterday and has commenced operations in the Middle East.
This new aircraft carrier deployment comes amidst concerns regarding the well-being and quality of life of the crew aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed in the Middle East for an extended period. The Lincoln has been stationed in the region for over 250 days.
US officials had previously stated that the plan was to deploy the George Washington to the Middle East to replace the Lincoln.
