Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has urged US President Donald Trump to calm the situation in the Middle East and de-escalate tensions. During a telephone conversation on Saturday, he expressed concern regarding plans to intensify attacks on Iran—though Trump subsequently announced a decision to halt attacks against the country.
Citing a US official, the news outlet Axios reported that Crown Prince Mohammed “expressed concern and sought clarity regarding the US course of action.” Another source familiar with the matter told Axios that the Crown Prince requested Trump to calm the situation and refrain from launching attacks.
Citing sources familiar with the call, the news agency AP reported that if the US were to launch massive attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure, bridges, or power plants, Tehran might retaliate by targeting the energy infrastructure of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations—a prospect that has alarmed Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “For the future well-being of the world, and for the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, I have agreed to call off the military strike. However, this is contingent upon reaching a quick agreement.”
He stated that Middle Eastern nations had persuaded him not to attack Iran.
