Saudi-US joint attack on bases of Iran

Joint forces of the United States and Saudi Arabia have launched airstrikes against Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq. Eight of their members were killed and four others were injured. US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed that these groups attacked US forces and Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure at the behest of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

In response to more than 30 IRGC-directed drone strikes in the past 72 hours, the United States and Saudi Arabia launched precision strikes on the weapons depots and logistics facilities of several Iranian-backed groups across eastern Iraq, Centcom said in a statement.

The statement added that the IRGC’s drone strikes were “irrational” and did not succeed in achieving any objectives.

According to CENTCOM, between February and April of this year, Iranian-backed Iraqi armed groups attempted more than 600 attacks targeting US citizens and various installations. The agency also warned that the United States may take more military action if these attacks continue.
