Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has stated that no agreement between Tehran and Washington is possible until Israel halts its attacks on Lebanon. He made this statement in a post on the social media platform X on Sunday.
In the post, Khamenei wrote, “Iran has set the preservation of Lebanon’s territorial integrity and the complete, unconditional cessation of the Zionist regime’s aggression as the primary conditions for any agreement to end the war imposed by the United States.”
In a series of posts, Khamenei also expressed support for the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, its former leader Hassan Nasrallah, and the people of southern Lebanon—the primary targets of Israeli attacks.
He stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the protection of these oppressed yet powerful Mujahideen (Hezbollah fighters) to be its strategic duty.”
Khamenei’s remarks come amidst reports of a halt in the exchange of attacks between Iran and the US and the resumption of diplomatic efforts.
Tehran has repeatedly maintained that Israel must stop its attacks on Lebanon as a condition for ending the conflict between Iran and the US. Iran had included this demand in the very first clause of the memorandum of understanding signed with Washington in June.
However, that agreement subsequently collapsed due to disagreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
