The US military stated that it has struck at least 140 targets in Iran in retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. This claim was made in a statement released yesterday, Saturday.
Washington launched fresh strikes across various locations in Iran today, Sunday (late Saturday night, US time). This marks the third round of US strikes on Iran within a single week.
CENTCOM stated that this third wave of attacks was initiated after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked a Cyprus-flagged commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
The CENTCOM statement read, “US forces struck approximately 140 Iranian military targets using precision-guided missiles launched from land, carrier-based aircraft, drones, and naval vessels.”
CENTCOM further added that the strikes targeted missile and drone launch sites, naval military facilities, ammunition depots, communication networks, and coastal surveillance centers.
Iran has already announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The country claims that a ship was navigating an unauthorized route and was stopped following an attack. Tehran has warned of a “harsh response” should any retaliatory measures be taken regarding this incident.
Subsequently, the IRGC claimed to have attacked and disabled a second vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. They also claimed to have launched attacks on US military installations in various Gulf nations—including Jordan, Qatar, and Oman—in retaliation for the third round of US strikes.
