US President Donald Trump has spoken by telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two held a conversation lasting approximately 90 minutes yesterday, Saturday. During the call, Trump offered to assist in finding a resolution to the war in Ukraine.
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Putin, disclosed this information early Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he, too, had spoken with Trump by phone.
This conversation between the two leaders took place ahead of the NATO summit scheduled to be held in Turkey next week.
Regarding the call between Trump and Putin, Yuri Ushakov said that the US President reiterated his readiness to work towards quickly ending the war and finding a solution to the crisis.
Ushakov described the conversation as “quite constructive.” He stated that Russia seeks a political and diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict, while maintaining its fundamental position.
Ushakov further alleged that Ukraine and its European allies are attempting to prolong the war and even escalate the conflict. He also claimed that they are carrying out terrorist activities against civilians.
In this context, Ushakov pointed to long-range Ukrainian attacks on various targets within Russia. Most of these attacks have targeted facilities linked to Russia’s oil industry, resulting in fuel shortages in several regions of the country.
Putin told Trump that the Russian army is steadily advancing on the battlefield and bringing one area after another under its control.
Ushakov alleged that Ukraine and its European allies are seeking to extend the duration of the war and even intensify the conflict. He claimed that the majority of these strikes targeted facilities linked to the oil industry, resulting in fuel shortages across several Russian regions.
Ushakov added that during the phone call, Putin briefed Trump on the latest battlefield situation. He asserted that Russian forces are advancing confidently and bringing one area after another under their control.
Russian military officials informed Putin on Friday that their troops had captured Kostiantynivka, a strategically important city in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the country’s General Staff rejected this claim yesterday, maintaining that the city remains under Ukrainian control.
Russia has previously stated that any resolution to the Ukraine war must involve handing control of the entire Donbas region to Moscow—a demand Ukraine has rejected. Although Zelenskyy called for a face-to-face meeting with Putin last month, the Kremlin leader dismissed the proposal.
According to Yuri Ushakov, Trump stated during the call that US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would continue efforts to mediate a resolution to the Ukraine war and were prepared to visit Moscow again if necessary. However, US diplomatic initiatives regarding the conflict have largely stalled recently, as Washington’s primary focus has shifted to the ongoing tensions involving Iran.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in a Telegram post yesterday that his phone conversation with Trump went “very well.” He noted that the two leaders also discussed the situation along the approximately 1,200-kilometer-long battlefront in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy added, “There is a real possibility of ending this war.” “And the United States’ firm stance on this matter will play a crucial role.”
Zelenskyy also mentioned that the two leaders agreed to continue discussions on this issue with Trump at the upcoming NATO summit.
