US Senator Bernie Sanders has urged the newly elected US Congress to cut off funding for the ongoing war involving Iran.
In an interview with CNN on Friday, Sanders stated, “We cannot end this war simply by passing a resolution; to stop the war, we must cut off its funding—that is what needs to be done.”
He added, “This war is illegal and unconstitutional. Nineteen American service members have been killed in this conflict. Thousands of men, women, and children in Iran and neighboring countries have lost their lives. Furthermore, hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent on this war.”
Sanders, an independent senator from Vermont who caucuses with the Democrats, noted in a social media post that American voters sent a “clear message” in the midterm elections in favor of ending the war.
