Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, has rejected Israel’s claim that the 170 journalists killed in attacks by Israeli forces in Gaza were “terrorists.”
She stated that there is not a “shred of evidence” to support Israel’s assertion that the journalists participated in military activities.
Albanese made these remarks in a post on X. Earlier, the Israeli military had stated that its investigations revealed individuals who “identified as journalists” were actually members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other “terrorist organizations” in Gaza.
Regarding the Israeli military’s claim, Albanese said there is “zero” evidence to support the allegation that the journalists were involved in military operations. She also announced that she would soon publish a report on this matter.
In her post, Albanese further noted that while Western media has begun verifying information, “apartheid Israel” has intensified the spread of disinformation.
She alleged that a “legitimization cell” within the Israeli army is fabricating narratives to justify the genocide. She added that these issues would be highlighted in her upcoming report.
