Spider-Man Tops Box Office for Fourth Consecutive Week

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, continues to dominate the North American box office even as summer draws to a close. The Sony Pictures film is expected to retain the top spot for a fourth straight week. It is also on track to surpass 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and become the third-highest-grossing film in North American history.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film recently set a record for the fastest movie to gross $800 million in North America. Its success has also injected new momentum into this year’s summer box office.

Meanwhile, Insidious: Out of the Further is set to release in approximately 3,000 theaters this Friday. Produced by Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films, and Blumhouse, the film is projected to earn around $23 million during its opening weekend. It was made on a budget of approximately $18 million.

Starring Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea, and Lin Shaye, the film is written and directed by Jacob Chase. The story follows a young mother who possesses a unique ability to bring spirits back into the real world. This is the sixth installment in the Insidious franchise, which began in 2011.

Previously, 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door opened with $33 million in North America and went on to gross $189 million worldwide. The new installment has received a 65% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

On the other hand, Mutiny, starring Jason Statham, is releasing in about 2,700 theaters. In this Lionsgate action film, a former Marine is framed for murder and must fight to prove his innocence. With a budget of around $40 million, the film is expected to earn in the single-digit millions during its opening weekend. Directed by Jean-François Richet, Mutiny has received a 49% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Statham’s film Shelter, released earlier this year, grossed $5.5 million in North America during its opening weekend, while A Working Man (2025) earned $15.5 million in its debut weekend. The actor will be seen next year in the movie The Beekeeper 2.

Other films releasing this week include The Magic Faraway Tree, starring Andrew Garfield, and Spa Weekend, featuring Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, and Anna Faris.

Meanwhile, driven by the success of The Odyssey and Toy Story 5, alongside the strong performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the 2026 summer box office revenue has reached approximately $424 million so far. According to Rentrak, this figure represents a 23.7% increase compared to the same period last year. However, the record for the highest-grossing summer box office still belongs to 2013, when total earnings reached approximately $475 million.
