The United Nations has condemned the killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the organization has called for ensuring the protection of healthcare facilities in the besieged region.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said, “We condemn all killings of civilians.”
He stated that, according to Gaza’s health authorities, more than 150 people were killed in Israeli attacks in July. This marks the highest monthly death toll since the beginning of the year.
Farhan Haq also expressed concern regarding an Israeli strike on a medical supply warehouse near Al-Aqsa Hospital on Friday. Reports indicated that the warehouse was destroyed in the attack.
He said, “Healthcare facilities should never be attacked or used for military purposes.”
The UN official also voiced concern over the shortage of medical supplies in Gaza. He noted that stocks of various medical items—including insulin for diabetes patients and essential medications for heart disease patients—are running low.
Farhan Haq added that alcohol-based disinfectants, essential for hand hygiene and infection prevention, are also currently almost unavailable.
He mentioned that many other medical supplies necessary for infection prevention and control are awaiting Israeli approval to enter Gaza.
Amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the healthcare system is facing a severe crisis. Various international organizations, including the UN, have repeatedly called for the protection of medical centers and emergency service infrastructure.
