The United States may launch an attack on Iran either today (Saturday) or tomorrow (Sunday). The country announced such a plan yesterday, Friday, according to two US officials.
However, no clear details regarding the specific scope or potential targets of the attack have emerged. The two officials also cautioned that the plan could still be scrapped.
This announcement follows indications from President Donald Trump regarding a strike on Iran. Trump had previously stated that a US attack on Iran was unlikely to be averted soon. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, he said, “We are going to hit them very hard.”
Latest reports indicate that no new attack was announced last night. US Central Command (CENTCOM) also did not report any new strikes against Iran on Thursday or yesterday.
Earlier this week, the US stated that it had carried out a “major strike” in response to an attempted Iranian attack on a US military base in Jordan the previous day.
According to UK Maritime Trade Operations, a tanker near the Strait of Hormuz has been hit by a “missile.” It remains unclear who is responsible for the attack.
