An unusual story has emerged ahead of the World Cup semi-final clash between England and Argentina. Kelsey-Rose Bowers, an English female footballer, is supporting Argentina instead of her own country. The reason is that she is the girlfriend of Marcos Senesi, an Argentina national team defender and a new star at Tottenham. Consequently, Kelsey-Rose’s loyalties are divided for Wednesday’s semi-final.
Although English by birth, she has been backing Argentina throughout the tournament to support her partner. The 22-year-old defender played for the Bournemouth Women’s team for the past three seasons before leaving the club this summer. She met 29-year-old Marcos Senesi while he was playing for Bournemouth. Senesi is currently part of Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni’s World Cup squad, though he has played only one match so far; he was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes during Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Jordan in the final group stage match. Throughout the tournament, Kelsey-Rose has been cheering for Senesi and Argentina from the stands.
She was also present in the stands during the quarter-final match against Switzerland on Sunday. She posted several photos on Instagram wearing an Argentina jersey paired with blue jeans. After the match, Kelsey-Rose took a photo with a smiling Senesi. She captioned the image simply, “About yesterday…” to which Senesi replied, “Love you!” Now, the couple awaits a semi-final where Kelsey-Rose’s homeland, England, faces her partner’s country, Argentina.
