At first glance, it might look like the daily routine of a prestigious educational institution. However, the surprising fact is that none of these students are flesh-and-blood humans; they are all humanoid robots powered by artificial intelligence.
Turning scenes from Hollywood science fiction movies into reality, a unique school of this kind has opened in China. The country’s first specialized robot school has officially launched with the aim of molding these humanoid robots into skilled entities capable of functioning in the real world.
In this era of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the initiative to provide such institutional education for robots has created quite a stir.
This extraordinary educational institution has been established in Hangzhou—a city renowned for cutting-edge technology—in China’s eastern Zhejiang province. It is named the Hangzhou Robot School.
To progressively enhance the robots’ intelligence, behavior, and overall operational efficiency, the school has introduced four specialized courses: technical skills, nursing, arts, and sports. The objective of each course is to overcome the robots’ mechanical limitations and equip them to perform intricate tasks just like humans.
A video showcasing the school’s internal activities recently went viral on social media. It shows tie-wearing robot students performing specific tasks—both in the classroom and on the sports field—with remarkable human-like precision. Tech enthusiasts have been particularly amazed by scenes of the robots’ fingers touching piano keys and their ability to track the trajectory of table tennis balls to execute perfect shots. Behind this innovative and groundbreaking initiative stands Noblelift Group, a renowned Chinese logistics and technology company. Xu Songgui, the company’s Executive President, outlined the future plans and objectives of this robot school, stating, “We hope that after completing their studies and training at this specialized school, our robots will be able to operate efficiently within real-world, complex logistics and supply chain management. Furthermore, they will be capable of performing various real-life tasks and resolving major challenges across corporate and manufacturing environments.”
