On February 28 of this year, Israel and the United States launched a surprise attack on Iran. The joint offensive by the two nations resulted in the deaths of dozens of top Iranian leaders and military officials, including the then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Addressing the matter on Tuesday (June 30), Bagher Zolghadr, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated that those involved in the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other leaders would be punished.
He affirmed that avenging the killings remains on the agenda. In a statement, Zolghadr noted that the file regarding retribution for the blood of Khamenei and the other martyrs remains open; those who ordered the attack and committed these crimes will certainly face punishment.
A 60-day ceasefire is currently in effect between Iran and the United States under a memorandum of understanding. However, even after the agreement, the two nations have engaged in retaliatory attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. Amidst this situation, analysts are expressing skepticism regarding the prospects of a final agreement between the two countries.
